I’ve been on the road a lot lately, to one place or another, but most of that on-the-roading has been for fun and personal reasons. This? Not a bad thing. (Thank you, United, for your Double EQM promotion.)
Today, I am officially noting for the record that I am in Ocean City, Md., which means I’m breaking my rule of thumb and alerting you to my absence from home while I’m actually away. Thieves and saboteurs, please ignore this post.
I’m on the edge of the Atlantic to celebrate the wedding of my friends Susan and Don, who didn’t get engaged quite as quickly as they otherwise might have because they put in a garden last year.
If there’s any reason to wait to get engaged, I still maintain that’s a good one. But I’m glad they indeed made the engagement happen, and that I’m here for the celebration. Like gardens, weddings awaken my optimism, renew my sense of wonder at the miracles we all can make of our lives, and remind me that it’s important to plant seeds, water and feed them, and wait for them to grow.
So tomorrow, their wedding day, I’ll raise a glass to them and the life they’re cultivating. Congratulations, you two. I wish you soft rain, fair weather, and good harvest in all you do.

So sweet, I hope you are all having fun.
But I have to say, every time I look at this title I think it says “A Weeding of Gardeners.” Somehow that just makes more sense to my brain:-)
And yes, when I saw you were heading to the airport yet again I went, dang, that lady gets around!
Have a safe trip home. Kind of good you don’t have a garden right now, eh? Nip all that travel right in the bud!

How funny, your friends were also featured in another blog I read (We Love DC). I had this total sense of deja vu, seeing two posts about a Don and Susan getting married in Ocean City, MD.

Tara, that’s so funny…they’ve definitely been weeded out of the single-person pool, so there’s that! And you’re so right…having a garden would, um, slightly crimp the travel style. Or the travel style would seriously crimp the garden. Or something.
Amelia, I just saw that post on We Love DC this morning! Love that photo of them.
