On Saturday, I’ll be trying out a new farmer’s market. A group called Oakland Food Connections will be kicking off what they’re calling the “triumphant return” of the Oakland Community Farmer’s Market, which will open for business from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday and continue year-round. The market will be at 4173 Macarthur Boulevard, in the parking lot of the Laurel Office Center, in East Oakland.
Apparently Saturday will be quite the celebration, including a guest chef making barbecue, live music, and raffles. Support local farmers AND win a prize. This sounds good to me. There are volunteer opportunities, too, so if you’re interested in helping out, the person to get in touch with is Tori at 510.482.1898.
Also, this is your official notice that, starting tomorrow, I’ll be running my series of posts on my experiences this week as I kept my food and beverage budget to $21. From now through September 28, you’ll see a post per day about how I prepped for the challenge, and how I did as the week went along. Saturday will be my last day under the $21 budget, so while I’ll be shopping at the new market, I won’t have the opportunity to actually try any of the produce I buy until Sunday. But as far as I’m concerned, that will just give me something even better to look forward to.
